Cash boost for group looking to save bus services

A new co-operative to commission local bus services across West Oxfordshire is to be set up after councillors agreed to fund its start-up costs.

A total of £800 will be allocated to the group which will look at ways of trying to replace bus services in rural areas that are seeing existing services being withdrawn due to budget cuts by Oxfordshire County Council.

Robert Courts, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The withdrawal of bus services from villages will hit those most in need.

“Hopefully, this initiative will go some way to helping residents avoid feeling isolated in their communities.”

Oxfordshire County Council is cutting subsidies for 118 mainly rural routes to save £3.7m from its budget.
