News Update from the Parish Council

Please see below an update on items discussed at recent meetings.

New Burial Ground for Leafield

The Parish Council are currently working on the development of a new burial ground adjacent to St Michael and All Angels Church at Leafield.  The existing Churchyard is almost full so the Parish Council are looking at alternative arrangements for the village.

Following a public consultation meeting around 15 years ago the Parish Council purchased the plot of land adjacent to the Churchyard with a long-term plan for its development into a burial ground.  Planning Permission has been obtained for change of use from agricultural to a burial ground but, due to the clay bed which the site is based, extensive drainage works are required to make the area fit for purpose.  The initial stage of development has been estimated to cost £30-40,000 with a total of around £60,000 to develop the whole site.

The Parish Council will be holding a public consultation meeting in the early autumn to discuss plans with residents to ensure that the project delivers a suitable outcome for the village.  The consultation date will be publicised in future newsletter issues.

To reflect current public concerns on environmental issues, the Parish Council have declared a ‘Climate Emergency’ in the village.  A sub-committee is being formed to consider and action new initiatives for the village. All residents are welcome to attend the first meeting in September – please come and along and help make a difference for Leafield!

Parish Council now meets each month

Meetings will now be held twelve times a year, usually on the second Wednesday of each month.  The next meetings are on 14th August and 11th September at 8pm in the Pavilion, Leafield Village Hall and all residents are welcome.  Please contact the Clerk if you would like agendas and minutes to be emailed to you, or look on our website http://www.leafieldvillage.co.uk or Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/leafieldparishcouncil/ .

A reminder that we are still seeking new Councillors for co-option.  In August we expect to co-opt one new member giving a total of five but require a total of seven councillors to represent the village. Please contact the Clerk if you would like further information.
